We all know development can be challenging. A central challenge is ensuring that the feasibility, including financial case, stacks up.  We’re hearing from NGBC that the finance landscape is changing. Due to international obligations New Zealand banks are needing to “green” up their lending. The results can in some instances potentially assist with development viability. In the last 18 months banks have moved to provide lower interest development finance for projects that are sustainably designed and green certified. 

Due to reductions in development finance interest rates the benefits of building green may help a project stack up. Lower interest development finance means there are real and tangible benefits to certifying to green standards (on top of a housing product that may have greater appeal when the WOL savings are factored in.)
